Hope’s story · Morocco

One little life.
A reason to
keep caring.

When Hope was found on the street, she weighed just over one pound and was seriously ill. Her journey toward safety would take veterinary treatment, patient daily care, and people willing to stay by her side.

Her story helped inspire Hope Lives Here. Our sanctuary work in Morocco has already begun, and we are now working to give animals like her a much larger home.

01 · HER RESCUE

Small enough to hold.
Too important to overlook.

When we found Hope on the street, she had no name. She weighed a little more than a pound and was desperately unwell. She needed someone to take responsibility for what happened next.

Her illness was coryza, and she was struggling to breathe. Her eyes were affected, too. Treatment was urgent, but she was so weak that even the choices intended to help her carried uncertainty.

We could not know how her story would end. We could choose to stay with her through it.

02 · THREE WEEKS OF CARE

Every day.
Every small chance.

For three weeks, Hope went to the clinic daily. Her care included antibiotics, vitamins, and fluids. Breathing difficulties also meant three nebulizer sessions each day.

Between those visits and treatments, Zineb cared for her at home. Medication was given in small drops. Feeding required a syringe. Warmth, close attention, and patient hands became part of every day.

Recovery was made up of these repeated efforts. Each treatment needed follow-through. Each day brought another reason to watch closely and respond to what Hope needed.

Zineb’s care gave continuity to that uncertain time. Hope had someone beside her through the work of getting stronger.

03 · THE OPERATION

When waiting
was no longer possible.

As her eye deteriorated, surgery became necessary. Earlier, her weakness had made anesthesia a serious concern. Eventually, the danger posed by her eye meant the operation could not be delayed.

Alhamdulillah, she survived.

That moment mattered profoundly to everyone who had cared for her. After weeks of uncertainty, Hope could continue toward a life beyond the immediate fight to survive.

04 · HOW SHE GOT HER NAME

Before we named her,
she gave us hope.

Her name came from what her struggle had given us. Watching such a small animal endure treatment and begin to recover changed the people caring for her. We began to understand that she had given us hope.

By the time her story was first shared, she had reached four pounds. She remained blind in one eye, yet was playful, affectionate, and finding her place in a world of safety.

Her story became a reminder of the trust involved in caring for a vulnerable life. We had been given the opportunity to help, and with it the responsibility to keep trying.

Hope, Pokito & Nala

A place to belong.

Hope shares her world of safety with her brother, Pokito, and her sister, Nala. Her siblings have a genetic condition affecting their back legs. They move differently, but are independent, playful, and closely bonded. Together, the three siblings have made the meaning of continuing care deeply personal to us.

Together, they have deepened our understanding of what it means to care for animals whose needs continue. Safety means having food, comfort, and people attentive to what each animal requires.

Their stories are personal to us. They also point to a larger need: other animals deserve that same willingness to look beyond illness or disability and recognize a life worth caring for.

From a personal story to a shared purpose

Why we say
“Hope Lives Here.”

Hope gave a name and a face to a responsibility we could no longer see as distant. Caring for her, Pokito, and Nala helped inspire a sanctuary for vulnerable animals in Morocco. That work has already begun.

We quickly recognized the need for much more space, especially for blind cats and animals requiring regular assistance. We have identified a farm and are working toward purchasing it and preparing it for the animals’ needs. Your support can help make this larger home possible while sustaining the care already underway.

This growing animal welfare mission sits alongside SILAH’s founding commitment to orphaned children. Both are rooted in the Islamic values of mercy, generosity, and responsibility toward the vulnerable.
